Persepolis Blog Response 1

Persepolis is organized and structure by the author writing and making it into a grahpic novel book. Which the pictures helps the reader understands what is happening in the scene. For me, I like reading books with and without pictures. It is just that the books without any pictures at all makes me have to visualize it myself and for graphic novel books, the pictures are already there making me enjoy the book with less writings to read. Also, I can visualize the scenes of what is happening every second if the books are really interesting. If not, than usually it is really hard to understand what the book is about and how the scenes occured. Satrapi had chosen the time when her country was in a prolonged war and what had occured during those days in her childhood. With the cause of professions getting prison behind the bars for so many years. These professions were talked about the stories they had been living in tortures and the women raising the children as a single parent. Not only that but the demonstrations that the people did to support their people and to get their rights. The passage of time is presented through a little girl named Marji with family members who had experienced those days of tortured. But Marji who was young and small wanted to help out and reads lots of books to just understand the things that she did not know. Satrapi's drawings were drawn in ink which is black and in a white background. In his drawing, he writes the captions and text of what the scene is all about.
The writer's voice is a strong voice which is showing the movement of her rights of helping her people. Not only that but through Marji who is in the book that she wrote about. Aspects of Marji's character that I can identify with is being a reader. She reads lots of books to understand things and I on the other hand, likes reading because it keeps me company and for the most knowing what life could be. For example, family issues, relationships, friendships and etc. For the least of characteristics I found between us is being politic. Marji is a little girl who seems to be a politic person. She does demonstrations and the influences from adults gave her an idea that she and her friends became just like the elders. For me, I am not really into politic. I mean it is not that bad but sometime debations can just get so annoying for me. It just never know when to stop. My reaction to the little girl did affect me in some ways. She is just like Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks who took action to make changes.
Some examples of how the ordinary citizens of Iran enjoyed life despite the oppressive regime was the demonstrations that were made. For example, marching around and saying down with king. They also shouted from day till night but for some days, people would get killed because of these demonstrations. In the book, when Marji was allow to go to the demonstrations with her parents, some soldiers came and beat down the people. Her parents grabbed her and ran when she first saw violent so close that she could see. The picture was so funny because a woman was getting stabbed by the soldier and she was just like... oh what just happened?? looking face. And I find it funny because why can't it be a man whos getting instead of the woman. I don't think it matters but they way her face expression was. She should of looked terrified instead of a shocking face. Satrapi added comic relief by showing fuuny pictures such as when a profession who was tortured and you can see rated pictures of how he was tortured. These scenes are relevant to the story as a whole by showing that these were the not so shame of days living in the old days of life that the people had. So it wasn't really cared about except for the veil thing. Which they had to wear it if not want to be a whore.
