The captivities that the author explores were the female having to wear the veil, no fun such as parties, drinking alcohol, dressing punky, and being a communist. Also the people could not really rebell against the king or ruler. To prevent these things to happened, there were a women branch called, the Guardians of the Revolution where a group of women arresting another women caught wearing the veil improperly. They stop women who are wearing the veil improperly by explaining to them the duties they had as a Muslim Women. Then they will also take ones to the committee which was the head quarter of the Guardians of the Revolution. This reminds me of the dress code policy at school. Where when a girl goes to school, wearing a skirt or dress too short, then they get stopped and ask to changed into a sweat pants. Other preventions were guardians paying them for a visit and arrests the family who was trying to plan the party. In the book on page 105, Tinoosh's dad was arrested because of trying to plan a party. Tinoosh's dad was tortured by getting 75 whips. I believed that there were less freedoms that people had. Guardians were everywhere and watching them. The people circumvent and defy these rules by doing what was to be followed but also gave demonstrations for their rights. They attempt to live ordinary by going down basement and party down there. Marji's Uncle was genuine wine maker that he made wine down in his basement and his lady cleaner who helped crushes the grapes. Everything that they done was down in the basement where the guardians wouldn't know.
There are roles and importances of each religion in Persepolis. The Iran was the people who fights for their rights and power where the Iraqi who tries to take the control from the Iran. The Russian's role was like a place to just be safe for the crisis moment between the Iran and the Iraqi. The Iraqi thinks that they are so powerful that they tried to conquered the Iran to just show the others that they are powerful, too. The Iran who just hates the King that they are going against the King to get their rights and powers. But had to suffer hard times during the Revolution. Marji and her family, who, represnts the Iran fights and demonstrates their believe to have the rights and powers like the rest and Marji's Uncle Anoosh who fled to the Russia to be safe. But then came back because his wife was expected to be like an Iran wife. The Guardians as the Iraqi who tries to take control over the Iran that they are everywhere and making new rules to be followed. The author is making commentary on religion because he is stating that each religion has the right to have their own beliefs of their own religion and that they can choose to be what religion they want to be part of. Not just by force to be part of another religion that was force to. I think that Satapi is saying about religion's effect on the individual and society because the children sees influences for the society that they make their own games about it. They even laugh about it, too. The society which creates influences for the kids to see and therefore learn from it.
Persepolis is telling a story through Marji and her family's experience during the Revolution and commenting by different religions. These are some of the ways on the importance of stories in our lives. No matter what religion you are, we all have went through this. Not us but our ancestors who went through these hard times. Each experiences that each religion went through was to become another religion by the force control of another religion because they think they are better. The book suggest that even though we are different religion we can still work together just that we have different beliefs in our religion. This shape and give us meanings to our experience by learning from it. If it doesn't work out than it just doesn't. For example, if a person who believes in Shamanism was one day grew really sick and did everything the Shamanism could do to help but couldn't help. Then it can go to different other religion to get cured. Like become a Christian. I have met many Hmong people who became Christian because of this situation. In the book, Uncle Anoosh had married a Russian woman. Who they then had a divorced. Uncle Anoosh told Marji that his wife unlike his peole didn't have the heart. So probably they were not a fit for each other.

Persepolis Blog Response 1
Persepolis is organized and structure by the author writing and making it into a grahpic novel book. Which the pictures helps the reader understands what is happening in the scene. For me, I like reading books with and without pictures. It is just that the books without any pictures at all makes me have to visualize it myself and for graphic novel books, the pictures are already there making me enjoy the book with less writings to read. Also, I can visualize the scenes of what is happening every second if the books are really interesting. If not, than usually it is really hard to understand what the book is about and how the scenes occured. Satrapi had chosen the time when her country was in a prolonged war and what had occured during those days in her childhood. With the cause of professions getting prison behind the bars for so many years. These professions were talked about the stories they had been living in tortures and the women raising the children as a single parent. Not only that but the demonstrations that the people did to support their people and to get their rights. The passage of time is presented through a little girl named Marji with family members who had experienced those days of tortured. But Marji who was young and small wanted to help out and reads lots of books to just understand the things that she did not know. Satrapi's drawings were drawn in ink which is black and in a white background. In his drawing, he writes the captions and text of what the scene is all about.
The writer's voice is a strong voice which is showing the movement of her rights of helping her people. Not only that but through Marji who is in the book that she wrote about. Aspects of Marji's character that I can identify with is being a reader. She reads lots of books to understand things and I on the other hand, likes reading because it keeps me company and for the most knowing what life could be. For example, family issues, relationships, friendships and etc. For the least of characteristics I found between us is being politic. Marji is a little girl who seems to be a politic person. She does demonstrations and the influences from adults gave her an idea that she and her friends became just like the elders. For me, I am not really into politic. I mean it is not that bad but sometime debations can just get so annoying for me. It just never know when to stop. My reaction to the little girl did affect me in some ways. She is just like Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks who took action to make changes.
Some examples of how the ordinary citizens of Iran enjoyed life despite the oppressive regime was the demonstrations that were made. For example, marching around and saying down with king. They also shouted from day till night but for some days, people would get killed because of these demonstrations. In the book, when Marji was allow to go to the demonstrations with her parents, some soldiers came and beat down the people. Her parents grabbed her and ran when she first saw violent so close that she could see. The picture was so funny because a woman was getting stabbed by the soldier and she was just like... oh what just happened?? looking face. And I find it funny because why can't it be a man whos getting instead of the woman. I don't think it matters but they way her face expression was. She should of looked terrified instead of a shocking face. Satrapi added comic relief by showing fuuny pictures such as when a profession who was tortured and you can see rated pictures of how he was tortured. These scenes are relevant to the story as a whole by showing that these were the not so shame of days living in the old days of life that the people had. So it wasn't really cared about except for the veil thing. Which they had to wear it if not want to be a whore.

Feed Final Reflection
My feed looks like an iphone 3g. Like the iphone 3g, it represents how my feed functions and looks like. My feed, the iphone 3g, functions by just thinking of what you want and it will just pop out what you want. For example, if I thought of what is today’s weather and it will just pop out and tell me what the weather is. It is really simple. You think of something and it will just provide the information that you need. This only happens if you had set a voice control. Not only my feed can do that, it can help you when you are stuck on anything. Like helping you do your math homework step by steps. It gives you a visual and examples of how it is done. For entertainments and satisfaction, I can just play movies, games, internet access, shows and etc by my feed. I can just watch it in my feed. Advertisements would be put on when I have to get up and do something while pausing whatever I was watching. Also, clearances would be put on so I will know what malls to shop at for good prices. I would by clothings, accessories, shoes, cars, foods and other things that I will need. But to protect the feed from any virus, anti-virus are use to protect it.
This says that we tend to satisfied ourselves by getting the things that we want. Things that we would just use it a couple of time and then never again using it again. Unless if they are the things that we need not what we want. For example, if I bought a shirt, I would just wear it once or twice knowing that I would buy more and more clothings. This defines the culture and identity by consuming more than what we actually need.
I think that the media advertises over too much of what is natural for us. I mean plastic surgeries, natural minerals and other stuffs. Why can’t we just be what god has created us. For reliance on technology, I think there’s pros and cons for it. It gives us resources that we need. But could the be reliable. It gives us a transportation but pollutes the earth and hard to find fuel for it too. I don’t think that popular culture affects me because we all came from different background of cultures and believe different god. But learning to accept of a different cultures would be better than thinking that they’re not like you. I do think that they mold us to be who we are today. Even today, media creates influences of what to dress and do.
This impact me because amounts of money is spent everyday just to buy the things we want and feel satisfied. Or even to fit in. It defines me as consumerism. I buy things that I would just use it once or twice than give it away. I then feel like why did I even buy it. It’s saying that my personal habits are getting into a bad habit that I do. Makes me feel worse inside when I can just use it on something more useful.
People without the feed is really not part of this story. The only ones that are mentions were Violet, Violet’s dad and her home school friends. But the most was Violet and her dad. They were mostly more mention and Violet was the main character to show the readers the important of technologies and consumerism/anti-consumerism. Titius order all of those pants because he felt bad and so angry that it shows us consumerism to be satisfied. Titus couldn’t do anything that he also went to sleep naked and order the pants to forget of what happened. The feed interludes at the end of the book , “Everything must go..” is telling us that things that we want may cause us and that we may be better off without all these stuffs that are being wanted.

Technology
takes over...
takes over...

Getting ourselves BIG, FAT, and BONELESS!!
These images tells us how we will look like when technologies expands and takes over the people and the world. We would be nothing but living like PIGs everyday and technologies doing everything for us. We will just become LAZY and do nothing but eat, Eat and EAT!! Can't even get up and WALK for people's crisis. What if we start to live in SPACE and the EARTH becomes a JUNK YARD for us!!! What about the animals living on Earth?!?? What are we gonna do about them?!!? Turn them into some kind of ROBOTS, too!!?? How about the future when technologies becomes such an INVENTION!!! Then everything will just be like a paradise of DISASTER!! Like what if we become a technology OURSELF!! Getting LESIONS and ourself falling apart. Maybe there won't be any more JOGGINGs and WALKING the dog and etc. The daily routine that we do in a normal life. Won't this be an ISSUE concerning the future of our children's children's children's and so on life. Like the Global Warming issue!! Now if that's a BIG Issue than what about Technologies!! The world is starting to get warm, Warm and WARMER!! and many animals out there are dying out!!! So what if the EARTH becomes a technology itself, too!! and all of a sudden the Universe just stop FUNCTIONING and we all just died in that one moment!! Now that is just really creepy!!
I have chose these images because this might be a possibilities that the future may look like this! New Technologies are being invented everyday making things very satisfied. Where everything becomes so easy like magics. You get things you want in seconds. These images are important because in just a quick blank things may change and we won't see our mistakes until we meet it at a one point where it might be too late to fix it. Turning back is harder than once you have started. I have developed these by watching the movie. "Walle" and reading the book, "Feed." It made me realizes of how it can impact in the future. I feel kind of scared and creep out but not so much because technology haven't expanded that much to the point where cars are flying and having a computer chip in your brain. But I think it will be so scary once technology takes over.

Blog 2

In the chapter "Missing the Feed," it tells us that the corporations controls everything of a person's mind with the feed in their brain. We all know that the feed is like a computer chip which sends advertisements, informations, and things that ones may like, need or want. The corporations in this book that controls everything are mainly Feedlink, OnFeed and Amercian Feedware that collects each and everyone's data on what they think and feel. They then send these datas to companies so the companies will know what the people want. People that knows about the feed and that that the coporations controls everything saids that they are bad but they still uses it because they get everything they want. On page 48 Titus said, "Of course, everyone is like da da da, evil corporations, oh they're so bad, we all say that and we all know that it controls everything.....But they're are the only way to get all this stuff..." Since they know that they are control by corporations, they do not mind because either way they are still being control and getting everything that they wanted. Plus that they are all really super smart now.
Titus think the boat picture is boring because he does not know how it feels to be normal without using the feed to help. He has never done anything that he tells himself to do. Only what the feed tells him of what he will like to do. So this made him lost interest of what he is doing without the feed. The feed which Titus relied on gave everything that he want and like. On page 45 Titus said, "I couldn't find anything interesting about that picture at all." It is showing how the feed is used to entertain his activities for him that he is not use to the things that can be done normally. It is like an addiction where you cannot stop at one point without it. For example, like a person who takes drup pills just to make them feel better. But once they ran out of the pills than they starts to act crazy which is because it is an addiction. So it is the same for Titus. He can't be normal without the feed because he has never done anything normal. Which makes him go boring and starts to do stupid and dumb things.
I think Violet's father wants to study the dead languages because so that he can teach the others to become more normal and for those that has the feed would be normal again. Also because the language was once so important that maybe he does not want it to vanished. Now that feeds were invented, many people became careless about it when they can be supersmart using the feed. On page 65 it said, "They're languages that were once important but that nobody uses anymore. They haven't been used for a long time, except for the historians." From my experience, my dad had taught me, my siblings, and cousins on how to read and write in Hmong. But he only taught the basic ones. There were more and harder ones that I did not know. The Hmong language is known as Paj Hauj. But many Hmong people does not know. Only those who were taught and those who passes it on to the younger generations. Many Hmong teenagers today could not read and write in Hmong. I mean they could speak but not fluently anymore.
