From my understanding, the feed is like a computer chip that is stored into the human brain. Which is controlled by a corporation. The corporation controlls and sends information to every feeds that is stored in the human brain. Informations that are sent out were informations such as where and what the person will like and advertisements of what came out new. For example, if I went to the Mall of America, it would then start advertising what I will like and which one is cheaper to buy. It will also advertise things that I went nearby and start looking up stuffs for me to choose. In the book on page 9 it said, "We went into the store, and immediately our feeds were all completely Bebrekker & Karl. We were bannered with all this crazy high-tech stuff they sold there." In this chapter, Violet's feed had some damages and she was trying to go against the feed. She was the only one who could resist the feed and feel how it was normal for her without the feed. On the other hand, it wasn't normal for Titus. He was dependecy on the feed. Resisting the feed means, to not rely on something and to make your own choices. The advantages is that technology has expanded so much that everything comes easy. Such as, it makes choices for you to choose and helps you when you are stuck. For instance, you do not need to dial the phone to talk to your friends anymore. You can just M-chat with them in your brain. Kinda cool, huh? The disadvantages is that you are not making your own choices. You are letting the feed to suggest what you should do. It is also controlling you which you are not controlling yourself. This is bad! Cause your not being of who you are. You are letting someone to take control over you. I notice about the language Anderson used is that the characters swears alot and that sometimes the characters can not find a word to end their sentences. Which makes them stutter and the feed helps to find a word for the character. For example on page 14 it said. 'Her spine was, I didn't know the word. Here spine was like...? The feed suggested "supple".' Also, the language that is used makes the characters look and act stupid and dumb because they do not go to school and mostly depend on the feed. His purpose is to tell how people are relying so much on technology in reality. Such as, using the internet as a resources when they can just find a book as a resources. I mean, it is not that bad but what if the information was false or change like wikipedia. In this book, the purpose is to tell how technology is taking over the world and how people are getting so stupid. This is effective by Violet opposing the feed. Doing the opposite of what the feed tells her. But instead the feed sent a personal FeedTech shopping assistant to help her.
In this book lesions are a reference to a skin disease. A lesion is an opened cut injuried. From my perspective, the caused is made from the feed. Which is similar to small pox where a person cannot fight back the germs. I think that the feed is controlling so much that the skins are not able to hold up at the same time. So it loses some parts of its skin and becomes a skin disease. But I think it is similar to small pox because when a person gets sick it will usually start off with a fever. As it goes on, it will not be able to fight back the germs inside its body. Which then appears on the skin as a disease.
Ahhhh. those pictures are sooo gross man.
ReplyDeleteI never want a lesion. D:
